New Pornographers Tickets, Schedule and Info
Information about the New Pornographers.
The New Pornographers have a dark secret; their original influences lie very much on the wrong side of the musical tracks. Inspired by mainstream pop bands like The Cars and Cheap Trick, the band's chief writer Carl Newman says, "When I seriously started to try to write songs, my main influences were, like, Burt Bacharach, Jim Webb, and Brian Wilson. Those were the guys I kinda looked at their music and went, 'What the hell are they doing here?' I was just fascinated by the structures and the harmonics."

The name of the band comes from a quotation attributed to Jimmy Swaggart, who referred to music as "the new pornography". Newman stated in 2005 that he came up with the name after watching a Japanese movie called The Pornographers. As with many bands, the truth lies embedded in a rich patina of gloss and refraction.
The band has released four albums. Mass Romantic, Electric Version, Twin Cinema, and Challengers, plus a live album recorded on their 2006 tour. This live offering is exclusive to concert sales or is available from the band's website.
