Information about Final Fantasy the Band
With a name based on the immensely popular video game franchise, Final Fantasy is essentially a solo project headed by violinist/singer Owen Pallett and sometimes joined by drummer/engineer Leon Taheny. Using a sophisticated loop pedal and sampler in his famous live performances, not unlike artists Feist and Andrew Bird, Pallett creates his own unique avant-garde sound, writing for video game soundtracks.
Often, Final Fantasy is backed by stringed musicians. Pallett blends classical with experimental and electronica, his innovative sound appealing to the underground music scene. Recently, Final Fantasy's latest album He Poos Clouds won the Polaris Music Prize, an award granted to the best Canadian album based on artistic merit.
