Information about Leslie Feist.

Born to parents who were both artists, an abstract-expressionist painter and a student of ceramics, Fiest launched on her music career handling vocals in a Calgary punk band called Placebo. Before becoming involved with indie supergroup Broken Social Scene, she spent over two years in Berlin, having first lived a colorful existence at the heart of the performance end of indie, in a variety of incarnations.

Strange for a lot of indie types, Feist has enjoyed some ultra-commercial success, sending Feist tickets through the roof, thanks to her classy arrangements. Her single "Mushaboom", from Let It Die, is used in advertisements for Lacoste perfume. McDonald's offered one million dollars for the rights to use "Mushaboom" in their commercials which (amazing to some) Feist refused to do. "Mushaboom" was also the soundtrack to UK adverts for Silentnight beds. Fiest's single "1234" was used for HBO's trailers for the summer 2007 schedule. The same song, plus the video, also featured in Apple's famed iPod nano commercial. The song appeared in the Billboard Hot 100, and has featured in the Australian eBay commercial since August 2007. High praise indeed for a lady who initially sought only to be true to herself.
