Information about the Shins

If Natalie Portman says its good, it must be good. This band was featured in the 2004 film Garden State, when Portman's character, a flighty but charming compulsive liar, puts a pair of headphones on Andrew (played by Zach Braff), and praises the musical genius of The Shins. An indie band with influences in country, folk, and some pop, The Shins first released singles in the Albuquerque music scene, finally signing with Sub Pop, based in San Francisco.

Its appearance in Garden State brought the band widespread attention, and by the time The Shins released their second album, fans adored their musical and instrumental explorations and inventions. Their third album Wincing the Night Away debuted at number 2, a huge success for a band attached to such a small independent label.
