Information about the band Spoon
Based out of Austin, Texas, Spoon consists of lead singer and guitarist Britt Daniel, drummer Jim Eno, bassist Rob Hope, and keyboardist Eric Harvey. Spoon has been performing for over 10 years, releasing 6 studio albums, of which the last two made it on U.S. Billboards chart.
Although the band is considered American indie rock, Spoon's talent has not gone unnoticed, catching the eye of major record labels after the success of their first release "Telephono" off Matador Records. They were signed in 1998 to Elektra Records, which spotted their potential for massive appeal. Elektra Records had a history of supporting indie bands, from Stereolab to Luna, and the contract showed tremendous promise for the band's future.
Under Elektra, Spoon released A Series of Sneaks which did not meet their expectations. Elektra soon dropped Spoon and left the band without a home, touring unsuccessfully without much promotional support. Still, the resilient band produced their third album Girls Can Tell and shopped it to Merge Records, which signed them in 2001. The record alone sold more than the previous two records combined. Since then, Spoon has become a household name in indie rock circles, even making major mainstream appearances on David Letterman, Craig Ferguson, and Last Call with Carson Daly.
